Abstract [eng] |
Background. Breast cancer is one of the most pressing health problems both in the world and in Lithuania. Considering the fact that breast cancer is the most common oncological disease in women, which accounts for about 32% of malignant tumors in women, it is therefore appropriate to review the epidemiological situation of breast cancer in Lithuania in the period 2009-2019. Aim of the study. To determine the trends in breast cancer incidence and mortality and relative survival rate in Lithuania in the period 2009-2019. Objectives. 1. To perform an analysis of the changes in the incidence of breast cancer according to the stages of the disease and to determine the age-related changes in the incidence according to gender in Lithuania in the period 2009 - 2019. 2. To evaluate changes in mortality from breast cancer in Lithuania in the period 2009 - 2019. 3. To determine the overall relative survival rates of breast cancer patients in the period 2009 - 2019. Methods. Data from the Lithuanian Cancer Registry were used to analyze the incidence, mortality and relative survival rates of breast cancer. Standardized rates were calculated to estimate breast cancer incidence and mortality rates, and change analysis was performed using the regression program Joinpoint (version 5.0). In order to determine the overall relative survival rates of breast cancer patients, calculations were made using the Ederer II method to provide survival rates. Results. The analysis of this thesis revealed that the incidence of stage I, IV and unknown breast cancer increased in the period 2009-2019, while stage III decreased. The most common cases of breast cancer were women aged 50-69, men aged 70+. A significant change in mortality was observed only in the age group of women 0-49 years. The overall one-year relative survival rate was 89%, while the five-year relative survival rate was decreasing at 21.8%. Conclusions. In Lithuania, in the period 2009-2019, the incidence and mortality from breast cancer is increasing, while the five-year relative survival rate of patients is decreasing.
