Abstract [eng] "Effects of Dance-Movement Therapy on the Biopsychosocial Health of Individuals Living in Social Care Homes", Lina Kasetiene, Vilnius, Vilnius University, 2024, p. 89. Social care homes aim to create conditions for a dignified old age, where the most important needs of the people under care are met with the teamwork of various specialists, where not only health care and social services are provided but also psychological and spiritual support (Spirgienė, 2010). A common phenomenon in old age is reduced independence, non-performance of daily functions, and cognitive function disorders, therefore residents of long-term care facilities must receive high-quality and diverse services to ensure a better quality of life. DMT therapy can contribute to meeting the needs of these individuals, as studies have proven that DMT is an effective tool for improving the biopsychosocial health of individuals. A goal was set for the study-to determine the effect of DMT on the cardiovascular system, body movement function, and the strength of social connection. The quantitative and qualitative (observational) data analysis analyzed the data of 28 participants, while the qualitative (interview) study analyzed the data of 3 participants. Pulse and blood pressure measurements were chosen to collect data for the quantitative study. The observation method and semi-structured interview were chosen to collect data for the qualitative study. After the research, the following conclusions were formulated: the variety of session content had different effects on the participants’ cardiovascular system; the function of the participant’s movements improved reliably; moderately strong correlations between the cardiovascular system and movement function, as well as between social parameters showed that DMT has a positive effect on the physical and social health. During the interview, became clear the importance of music (especially with vocals), quite simple games, and activities used in the DMT process. Observing the interaction and non-verbal communication of the participants, during all sessions, it was possible to notice a positive change in the context of social connection. Research hypothesis: DMT will improve the movement dynamics and social health of persons living in social care homes – it has been confirmed.
