Abstract [eng] |
The title of this paper - Reproductive Resistance and Nationalism: The Case of Palestinian Sperm Smuggling. This paper examines the complex relationship between the modern countries of Israel and Palestine and certain factors that have had influence to them in the past. Disagreements, frustration with the current situations, desperate circumstances and power inequality encourage Palestinians to resist Israeli rule, fight for their freedom and independence. One of the forms of resistance, is the topic of this work - reproductive resistance and the case of sperm smuggling. The object of the master's thesis is a cinematographic production depicting cases of sperm smuggling. The aim of the work is to evaluate how reproduction and the case of sperm smuggling can be understood as reproductive resistance in Israeli-Palestinian relations and how it is represented in cinematography, using the theoretical discourses of gender and nationality and power and resistance. By using the theoretical approaches of gender and nationality, power and resistance and performing a cinematographic analysis, the conclusion was reached that the case of sperm smuggling reflects the power strategy of the Israeli state in prohibiting the reproductive behavior of Palestinian prisoners and represents a phenomenon such as the desire for freedom, resistance, preservation of national identity, fulfilling personal needs and cultural expectations. The master's thesis can be useful for getting to know the new and little analyzed phenomenon of sperm smuggling in the region, the importance it represents for the Palestinian society and for future analyzes of the topic of reproduction. |
