Contemporary society lives in the period of changes. In the process of political, economic, social and cultural variation, one of the oldest art branches – music is being changed. Not only people themselves, their lives and values are being changed, but the attitude towards culture, art and music varies as well. Popular (stage) music formed in 20th century in the USA nowadays is treated as a diverting soft music genre suitable for the majority of people. It takes a crucial part in our culture and it influences the process of society’s taste formation. Otherwise, popular (stage) music reflects the level of society’s culture. In this respect, the aim of the research paper is to investigate how people react to Lithuanian popular music, what the status of the music is among listeners and what development tendencies are. |
