Abstract [eng] The relevance of the study. The Education Act of the Republic of Lithuania (2011) states that “the purpose of non-formal education of children is to meet the students’ cognitive, educational and self-expression needs in order to help them to become active members of society”. Teachers write programs appealing to their own existing knowledge or following the descriptions of the criteria of Non-formal education programmes. In its recommendations (2012) the European Commission emphasizes the new priorities for education which focuses on education of general skills, learning outcomes, assessment of the efficiency of these results. The subject of the study is non-formal education programmes for schools of general education. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the non-formal education programmes and to provide the possibilities for their development.
