Abstract [eng] The goal of the Master’s thesis is to reveal the aspects of improvement of employee search and selection process in the private sector. The set goal was reached by carrying out the analysis of scientific literature and empirical research: quantitative – surveying representatives of private sector companies of Šiauliai city, qualitative – conducting in-depth interviews with professionals of search companies situated in Šiauliai. The performed analysis of the scientific literature and analysis of empirical researches carried out has shown that employee search and selection are an integral part of human resource management activities. The employee selection process depends on the search process. Employee search and selection process faces the problems that are associated with external (shortage of qualified employees, lack of motivation of candidates, etc.) and internal (lack of personnel management knowledge, absence of personnel officer in an enterprise, process simulation, etc.) factors. In most cases search of employees is performed not only by traditional methods: search among acquaintances, the use of Lithuanian Labour Exchange services, but also the possibilities provided by the Internet are used: placing ads on the company website, job search websites. The selection interview, which is usually applied in combination with other selection methods: analysis of CV and application letters, was distinguished as the most reliable method of selection. Based on the findings of the research, the recommendations to the executives of the private sector companies to use a wider variety of search sources and to apply more methods of selection, which would allow assessing applicants’ analytical and logical capacity are provided, the stages of the process of employee search and selection are presented. The research has confirmed the hypothesis: modern-day Šiauliai city private sector enterprises use traditional search sources and methods for the selection of employees when conducting employee search and selection process.
