Abstract [eng] Each year the number of children who deprived of parental care has not decreased in Lithuania and the majority of them live in foster institutions. However, the best-organized foster institution can not substitute the family. The researches on foster institutions show that because of separation from parents, negative psycho-social living conditions in foster institutions these children experience the number of social, psychological problems, difficulties of adaptation. But there is not enough analysis about problems the youth experience from sheltered housing when they leave foster institutions. The aim of this work is to survey the social ties of the youth from sheltered housing. The object of the analysis is the social ties of the youth from sheltered housing. Consequently, the qualitative research was done. Four youths were interviewed according to the biographical method. The aim of this survey was to investigate the system of social ties, to detect the problems of the social ties and the difficulties they experience in substantive live after leaving the foster institution. The results of survey show that the system of sheltered housing does not set up eligible conditions for positive socialization of youth. Young people find many difficulties in having independent life, education system, to strike up and keep close relations. The personal features of the individual are as important as the social relations in the process of socialization. However, passivity, distrust or overestimate of oneself and dependence on others is typical of the youth from sheltered housing. Despite the negative experience and cold relations, it is very important the tie of the family, especially with parents, for the respondents. It is noticed the difficulty to find and keep friendship with contemporaries who were raised in families. Therefore, it is so important for the youth to be fellows with others from the foster institution. Because of that fact they may get in trouble to be in the disjuncture of the society. It goes without saying, the secondary relations are weak, social roles are mixed and they look for the care and protection they used to have in the foster institution. The problems indicate not only the neccessity to improve the system of sheltered housing in Lithuania, but also to develop the service which can help them to reach the best independant life-style.
