Abstract [eng] Master's thesis subject - bilingual families. The aim - to examine the circumstances of language learning and communicative characteristics of bilingual families. The tasks were: a) to define the concept of bilingualism and to identify main species, b) to examine the formation of bilingualism in the family context, c) to analyze language learning in educational institutions context, d) to examine the communication characteristics in bilingual families, e) to identify the main advantages of bilingualism, f) to identify the potential problems and shortcoming of bilingualism, g) to give possible recommendations for solving the problems of bilingualism. The scientific literature studied in the research shows that bilingualism is an advantage in today's society. Bilingualism as a way of communication is useful in various fields of life: work, school, relatives, home, etc. Bilingualism helps to integrate in the different societies, supports connection between nationalities, helps to learn about new cultures and traditions. The research revealed that the successful functioning of bilingualism is very dependent on the language learning method. It is very important to choose how and when to start learning a second language: in a family from an early age or in educational institution, or while communicating in a different environment and so on. The study also showed that communication features in the bilingual families depends on its linguistic environment. Studying essentially similar families (composition, learned languages) revealed a completely different families language features, language errors and so on. It is due to the fact that they communicate in a different linguistic environment. The master’s thesis material could be useful for bilingual families, for educational and other institutions dealing with bilingual families, for society as a whole which often confront with bilingualism in everyday environment.
