Abstract [eng] The object of this paper is performance management in Lithuanian public administration institutions. Performance management is a way of managing the institution when all the activities are result-oriented. Results are assessed through the cycle of planning, observation and evaluation. The successfulness of implementation of performance management in Lithuanian public administration institutions depends on finding the dominating practices and values of performance management, or in other words – its culture. This paper is based on the hypothesis that performance management in Lithuania is not effective because various elements of it have features of different cultures. It is attempted to determine the inconsistent aspects of performance management in Lithuania, as well as ways to improve the current situation.
