Abstract [eng] Pension funds is the new kind of financial agents in the financial market, which generates big money flows, funneling them into stock market and so initiating the economy development in Lithuania. Today there are 30 different pension funds, working in the country, which general capital for the date of 31 December, 2005 was 406 mln. litas. The main object of the work is to evaluate pension funds and their main characteristics, the risk, related with these funds, and perspectives in Lithuania. Analyzing pension funds different authors’ ideas, articles and other information were systematized. The main source of statistic data is information about pension savings system and rates of pension funds practice provided by Ministry of Social Security and Labour of The Republic of Lithuania; also information from different articles of various newspapers. The work consists of three main parts. The first part deals with history of pension funds’ establishment and their place in the pension system. Also the practice and experience of pension funds of foreign countries are surveyed. The second part presents pension savings in Lithuanian pension funds. This part covers the reasons of the beginning of the pension reform and legal base related to pension reform. The second and the third stage pension funds and the risk of pension savings in pension funds are discussed in the second part as well. The third part is dedicated to discuss analysis of pension savings in Lithuanian pension funds. A review of second stage pension funds’ investing results during 2005 and perspectives of pension savings in pension funds are presented in this part. The whole work consists of 69 pages (without additions). The statistical data is presented in 8 tables and 27 pictures.
