Abstract [eng] The work carried out theoretical analysis of social skills in the institutional environment, education, social development. Hypothesis: development of social skills in the institutional environment does not guarantee care home learners socialization success. Questionnaire and semi- structured interview techniques were done with the aim to investigate and explore social skills of the institutional environment education as socialization assumption. There was done mathematical analysis of the data. In the quantitative study participated Kaunas municipality foster home and Atžalynas foster home children (N = 48, 22 girls and 26 boys), 15 foster home workers. Qualitative study was done in Kaunas municipality foster home and Atžalynas foster home. In this study participated children (N = 8 , 3 girls and 5 boys), 3 foster home workers (1 male, 2 females), 3 children who are already out of foster home (1 male, 2 females). The empirical part deals with social skills, making the acquisition, adaptation assumptions lack of social skills, independent living conditions of children in society and adaptation to training, social skills, social development as positive aspects. The main conclusions of the research: 1. Social skills are acquired in foster homes, but they are still missing. Foster home children are usually educated in behavior, communication, relationship maintenance skills. 2. Social skills are implemented by organizing various extracurricular activities and classes where children can develop everyday skills, as well as an opportunity for kids to earn money on pocket, recruiting various professionals who can advise on various issues. 3. Social skills are communication and co-factors that help to adapt, to improve process of socialization, social skills, positive social development. 4. The most important social skills for children is communication and cooperation, self-control, self-esteem, confidence, security, something confirmed by foster home staff, who added that the key to the children maintenance is feelings, perceptions, self- awareness, cognition, stress coping skills. All of these social skills are better shape of socialization. Social skills training enhances socialization success. 5. There was proved hypothesis that the social skills in the institutional environment does not guarantee care home learners socialization success.
