Abstract [eng] The present Master’s Thesis analyzes the writing problems of ethnic minority bilingual pupils. Qualitative and quantitative research sought to find out the type and number of errors made by ethnic minority pupils, writing in official (Lithuanian) and Russian languages. The research was based on written works of pupils from grade 5-9. Following them, a detailed analysis of errors made in Lithuanian (official) and Russian written works was performed. 146 written works were selected and analyzed from a total of 320 papers. The method of analysis included traditional analysis, in order to find a logical reasoning sequence, designed to highlight the essence of the analyzed material, and internal analysis, in order to perform a detailed analysis of available written works. While analyzing the tasks of written works in Lithuanian (official) and Russian languages, the errors were grouped and marked by assigned symbols. The research revealed that errors, found in written works of ethnic minority bilingual pupils, are characterized by phonological, grammatical, lexical – semantic, morphological, and syntactic features. The main differences and similarities between writing errors in official (Lithuanian) and Russian languages are based on orthography of different languages. Qualitative and quantitative research revealed the trends of writing difficulties of ethnic minority bilingual children, and the nature of writing errors of a bilingual pupil. The research determined that ethnic minority bilingual children make a lot of and various mistakes when doing writing works in Russian or official (Lithuanian) language. The tasks in Lithuanian language include a significantly higher number of errors than the ones in Russian language. This fact shows undeveloped skills of writing in Lithuanian language. The research has demonstrated that ethnic minority bilingual pupils from grades 5-9 make similar errors both while writing in Lithuanian (official) and Russian languages, i.e., the type of writing errors is similar, however, the number of writing errors in Russian language is significantly lower.
