Abstract [eng] HEALTH PROBLEMS AND NEEDS OF THE ELDERLY AND OLD-TIMERS AT NURSING HOSPITAL Master’s degree final scientific research work The object of the research - to investigate health problems of the elderly and nursery needs at nursing home. The aims of the research. To identify health problems of the elderly at nursing home.To analyze psycho emotional condition of the elderly, staying at nursing home.To evaluate life quality of the elderly at nursing home.To analyze patients’ knowledge about the ageing process and possible health problems in the declension of years. The object of the research. The participants of the research: having languid diseases, disabled, older than 60 year old people, who are in need of constant treatment and nursery. Patients’ knowledge about the ageing process and possible health problems. Patients’ health problems and needs at nursing home.The experiment was carried out in Švenčionys region, PSPC Švenčionys nursery home and Pabradės nursery home, from year 2007-2009. Methods of research. Theoretical: analysis of nonfiction, scientific publication, medicine law, medicine norms and medical documents.Empirical: a questionnaire has been used as a means of fact-finding.The following forms of method setting of social and medical biographies have been used: a personal conversation (an interview), witnesses of family and relatives ( narratives), knowledge about health condition of patients’ and their family, identification of general knowledge connected with personal life of patients’ and their relatives. 12 vital activities were evaluated while communicating and seeing, due to which depended patient’s functional capacity and dependency level.In this research data was presented after vital activity of safety had been analyzed. Patient’s social environment and possibility to take care of oneself was evaluated as well.Mathematical statistics: questionnaire data was analyzed using SPSS- for WINDOWS (13.0 software). “Microsoft Office Excel 2003” and “Microsoft Office Word 2003” programs were used for tables and diagrams. The results and conclusions of the research.The most frequent health problems of the elderly and old-timers at nursing hospital were one of movement (83,84 per cent), sleep (92,30 per cent), vision (83,84 per cent), hearing (63,07 per cent), intestine (54,42 per cent) and dysurias (41,45 per cent). More than two thirds respondents (70,77 per cent) mentioned chronic lassitude. After the evaluation of psycho emotional condition, it was clarified that elderly people have considerably reduced activity in personal and social life (75 per cent).Many respondents were lacking in communication (75,38 per cent), attention (70,77 per cent), help and care (54,42 per cent). Worry and depression symptoms were for the majority (78,66 per cent) characteristic, although the elderly didn't have any form of deep depression, which demands medical attendance. After the research of personality behavior changes, the cogitation (70,77 per cent), mind (66,54 per cent), orientation (40,90 per cent) and consciousness (50 per cent) disorders were diagnosed to the participants. After examining respondents' self-sufficiency using medicine, it emerged that only the third of them (33,84 per cent) could take medicine by themselves.The explored research of life quality of the elderly at nursing hospital showed that life quality is moderately evaluated by 60 per cent respondents, well - by 18 per cent, and bad - by 22 per cent respondents. By analysis of patients’ knowledge about the ageing process and possible health problems in the declension of years it was proved that the elderly and old-timers lack knowledge of prophylaxis (83,84 per cent), health care (92,21 per cent), healthy lifestyle (92,21 per cent), nourishment (83,84 per cent) and nursing (92,21 per cent).
