Abstract [eng] The article focuses on the analysis of adolescent's engagement in school life including in the process of education. The conducted theoretical analysis allows the conclusion that school students, who remain school disengaged, are distinguished by low academic achievements, behavioural problems and other learning problems. They have special educational needs learning disorders and they tend to abandon an educational institution early. The method of quantitative research is applied employing the international Student Engagement Instrument, which targets at emotional and cognitive engagement. The conducted data analysis revealed gender-based differences in adolescent's school engagement and particularly evident differences between school students in state and private educational institutions.
