Danutė Kalibatienė Vilnius, 2008 Keywords: type 2 diabetes, quality of life, SF-36 questionnaire. The aim of research was to evaluate quality of life patients who has type 2 diabetes. The main tasks were to analyse and compare differences of quality of life patients with type 2 diabetes, considering their gender, age and the body mass index. To evaluate quality of life patients with type 2 diabetes considering social factors. To evaluate quality of life of patients with type 2 diabetes considering complications of diabetes. Population of research. This study focused on 196 subjects with Type 2 Diabetes between the age of 41 and 77 years-old (average 60,5 ± 8,1 year). They were recruited from Vilniaus hospitals and an Out patient Clinic. The distribution consisted of 67 males and 129 females. Methods. There was used epidemiologic research of prevalence method. A questionnaire was administered to determine and access specific demographic characteristics including the type and duration of onset of diabetes, prescribed treatments, complications, social factors and other relevant data. Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) questionnaire has to bee used to assess quality of life in varios medical populations. The questionnaire contains 36 items that yield 8 category scales: physical functioning, role limitations caused by physical problems, bodily pain, general health, vitality, social functioning, role limitations caused by emotional problems and mental health. Scale scores range from 0 to 100, with higher scores indicating better health. The 8 category scores were grouped into 2 summary scales, the physical component summary scale and the mental component summary scale. SPSS (v. 10.0), WinPEPI (v. 1.55), Exell 2000, statistical packages and programmes were used for data gathering and analysis. These indicators were numerated : sample size (n), mean (M), standard deviance (SD), correlation coefficient (r), 95 proc. confidence intervals, data considered significant, when p<0,05. Results and Conclusions. Results of research have revealed that the sex had influence to the evaluation of quality. In all senses it was obvious that male tend to estimate 8 category scale with higher mark than female. The age of respondents had a negative impact in order to measure their quality of life. Most of respondents had excessive weight (41,8 proc.) and half of them had fatty degeneration (53,1 proc.). The body mass index (BMI) had negative impact in order to measure their quality of life. Most of respondents had secondary education or university education. Half of them were retiree, quarter of workers, and more than a half were married and resided in a family. Better social structure and life in whole family reflected as a positive factor to quality of life. Total quantity of patients who had diabetes type 2 also had one of chronical diabetes complications. It was 130 and it is 66,3 proc. Women had more various complications than men. Complications of diabetes had a negative impact to respondents quality of life.
