Abstract [eng] Nowadays doctors have really effective and certified medicament to cure bronchial asthma. However, the problem of unsuccessful treatment and insufficient control of this illness still remains. Recent research shows that only biological, medical and economic factors do not explain the inability to control the cause of the illness, thus special attention is paid to psychosocial factors. The link between psychological aspects and asthma control was analyzed in this research. An attempt was made to evaluate and describe the way teenagers suffering from this illness and their mothers perceive the illness and the way this perception (both of sick children and their mothers) is connected with the level of anxiety felt by teenagers. The illness perception both of sick teenagers and their mothers and the connection between the level of anxiety and asthma control also were studied in the research. Perceived illness experience scale created by Eiser (1995), multidimensional anxiety scale for children by March (1997), standardized asthma control questionnaire and parent experience of childhood illness scale by Bonner, Guill, McLaughlin, Schweitzer, Cartier (2006) were used in the research. 60 teenagers ill with asthma and their mothers were involved in the research. The age of teenagers ranged from 11 to 18. The results of our research proved the connection between two factors: the more negative perception of illness of teenager is, the higher level of anxiety becomes. The research also proved that the more negative perception of the child, so is the corresponding negative perception of his mother. A conclusion can be drawn from the results of this research that difficulties in asthma control can be linked with high level of teenagers’ anxiety and their negative perception of the illness, also their mothers’ negative feelings caused by the illness (anger, concern, sorrow, fear and guilt).
