When these functions fail to a greater extent, the lifestyle, types of activities, self-expression change, since a person has to give up his favourite activities due to the symptoms caused by the disease. The patients with the BA have anxiety disorders and depression more often as compared to healthy people. It is indicated that 6 to 30 % of the patients with asthma have concomitant anxiety disorders, whereas the prevalence of depression ranges from 1 to 45 %. Purpose of the work: to assess an emotional state of bronchial asthma on the quality of life of patients with bronchial asthma. Tasks of the work: 1. To assess the quality of life of patients with the BA using St.George respiratory questionnaire validated in Lithuania. 2. To determine the correlation of the QL, age and the length of the disease. 3. To assess the emotional condition of patients using the the Hospital Anxiety and Depression (HAD) scale. 4. To assess the correlation of emotional condition, age, length of the disease and different QL parameters. Subject of study and method: 142 patients with bronchial asthma participated in the survey. Form anonymous interrogation was conducted 2007-2008 in three out-patient clinic of Vilnius city. In the work two questionnaires were used: SGRQ and HAD scale. We used program package “SPSS for Windows” 10 v. in order to analyse and interpret obtained data Results of the work: Based on the SGRQ, the QL of patients who have had the BA for a number of years and were aged over 41 years decreased in 75 % of the cases. The disease symptoms had an effect on the QL of 84% of patients (r=0,692, p<0,05). The deteriorated QL mostly affected the mental-social welfare in 58% of the cases (r=0,921, p<0,05), whereas the physical activeness of the patients was affected due to the deteriorated welfare in 85% of the cases (r=0,682, p<0,05). The QL indicators reliably correlated with the demographic indicators (p<0,05). The assessment of emotional condition indicated that depression symptoms manifested in 13%, anxiety symptoms in 24%, and two disorders in 18% of the patients. The HADd reliably correlated with sex and age (p<0,05). Is established the significant connection between HAD and SGRQ by the components, which reflect the social- emotional welfare of the patients. All QL indicators reliably correlated with the HAD scale of anxiety and depression subscales, yet the manifestation of depression (r=0,331, p<0,05) and anxiety mostly affected the emotional and social welfare of patients (r=0,515, p<0,05). Conclusions of the work: 1.The deterioration of the quality of life of persons with the BA was determined in 75% of the cases. The disease symptoms have a reliably most significant effect on the quality of life in 84% of the patients, and impaired the daily activeness and activities of nearly all patients, but it only affected the social and emotional welfare of patients in 58% of the cases. 2.All parameters of quality of a life are considerably connected. Mental- social welfare and physical activity have a reliably most significant influence on the quality of life.
