The modern situation of children’s health is rather complicated and health indicators warn against threatening condition of their health. Adults understand the importance and the necessity of children’s health strengthening and they create individual health improvement, programs in order to solve the problems. Unfortunately, the adults do not take into account children’s needs and decide themselves what kind of knowledge children should gain. The aim of this research is to find out what kind of knowledge of health have children in 5 -10 grades also what extra information about health issues do they need. The task of research is to find out how children understand a concept of health, the lack of their health knowledge, to investigate the main sources of children’s health knowledge and the role of parents, medical staff and teachers in the process of health teaching. The object is 799 schoolchildren of 5 - 10 grades attending schools in Panevezys. The questionnaire consists of 37 questions. Data of the questionnaire have been gathered and analyzed using the statistical package SPSS 13.0 for Windows. The diagrams have been drawn using programs Microsoft Word 2003 and Microsoft Excel 2003 According to the results of this research schoolchildren’s knowledge of health is not good enough to satisfy their needs. The majority of the respondents feel lack of health knowledge, they need to get extra information of concrete health issues and widen their knowledge in this sphere. |
