Abstract [eng] SUMMARY EVALUATION OF BIOPSYCHOEMOTIONAL CONDITION OF PERSONS INTOXICATED WITH ALCOHOL AND ITS SURROGATES AND DETERMINATION OF NEED FOR NURSING Keywords: Intoxication with alcohol and its surrogates, needs for nursing, CIWA-Ar questionnaire, HAD scale, Barthel index. Aim of work – to evaluate biopsychoemotional condition of persons intoxicated with alcohol and its surrogates and to determine the need for nursing. Material and methods of research. 217 patients treated at hospital (161 men, 56 women) with intoxication of alcohol and / or its surrogates, were interviewed. Anonymous questionnaire was performed. Three questionnaires were used for evaluation of biopsychoemotional condition of patients and nursing needs: CIWA-Ar, HAD scale and Barthel index. Despite these questionnaires, subjects were additionally asked about their education, social, marital status, use of alcohol, they were asked to evaluate need for assistance in all vital activities in 10 point scale. Statistical data analysis was performed using program of statistical analysis SPSS (v. 8.00), “Excel 2002”. The following statistical factors were calculated: number of patients (N), standard deviation (SN), &#967;², data was considered statistically significant when p<0.05. Results. Total of 217 patients intoxicated with alcohol and its surrogates were interviewed: 161 men and 56 women. Most of them were from 30-39 years old group. Average of all investigated was 41.24±13.51 years old. Men were mostly unemployed (30.4 per cent), to compare with women (17.9 per cent). Third of them had (34.1 per cent) secondary education and fourth (25.3 per cent) - higher education. Men were using alcohol for longer period of time (21.86±9.64) than women (13.45 ± 9.72). Men usually complained about sleep disorders (91.3 per cent), diarrhea (50.9 per cent), convulsions (46.0 per cent). Women usually complained about chill (71.4 per cent) and vision disorders (32.1 per cent). Most of the respondents complained about the following mental disorders: memory disorders (62.7%), 61.8% were felt irritability, fear (54.4%). All these disorders were mostly felt by respondents treated with ITP. 72.4 per cent of patients felt anxiety, 40.0 per cent - depression. Abstinence condition of most patients (69.3 per cent) after intoxication with alcohol and its surrogates was evaluated from 15 to 19 points. Barthell index for 89.7% of all patients was lower than 20 points; this means that they were totally dependent. Respondents treated with ITP mostly felt need for the following vital activities: safe environment (10.00 ± 0.00); communication (9.35 ± 1.26); movement (9.33 ± 1.53); breathing (9.30 ± 1.30); voiding (8.97 ± 2.39). Respondents, who were treated in the department of acute intoxication, had needs for the following vital activities: safe environment (7.49 ± 3.37) and communication (7.06 ± 3.22). Conclusions. Most of the respondents were from 30-39 years old group, most of them were male, with secondary and higher education. They usually felt: weakness, insomnia, perspiration, headache, nausea and urination disorders. 72.4 per cent of the respondents felt anxiety, 40.0 per cent - depression. Usually they complained about the following changes in mental health: anxiety, memory disorders, irritability, and fear. Almost half (47.9 per cent) of the respondents arrived to hospital being totally dependent -Barthel index <20 points. Needs for assistance in all vital activities (except sleep) were more frequent for those treated with ITP, to compare with treated at the department of acute intoxication.
