Abstract [eng] Research purpose: to estimate Vu MF and other universities students’ nutrition and knowledge about it, as well as compare all collected data with schoolchildren’s data’s. Research tasks: 1) To explore if student’s nutrition is well balanced. To find out basic criteria’s on which students choose food every day, and do they follow healthy nutrition principles. Compare medicine faculty student’s nutrition with other universities students’. 2) To find out student’s knowledge about healthy nutrition and information research possibilities. To explore what part nurses take providing information about healthy nutrition for senior school aged children. 3) To explore Medicine faculty student’s knowledge quality about healthy nutrition and its principles, and compare it with other universities student’s. 4) Compare schoolchildren’s nutrition with student’s nutrition, also their privities about healthy nutrition. Methods: the research was accomplished in Vilnius 2007 year in winter – spring time. 228 students from three universities of capital were asked to fill anonymous questionnaire. Data was analyzed using SPSS v. 13. Age of attended student’s in research vary from 20 till 36 years old. Data was compared with 2006 year research data, where 130 schoolchildren from three schools of capital were surveyed. Results: In this research 72% girls and 28% boys were surveyed. We found out that student’s nutrition was unbalanced: 36% of students don’t eat breakfast. 17% medicine and 7% other specialties students eat only 2 times per day. 56% eat – snacks between major dishes. Majority confessed that they eat cereals very rarely. 7% – eat fruits and vegetables only few times a month. Only 28% of respondents eat fruits and vegetables daily. 11% students drink milk only 1 – 2 times per month. Some of students don’t eat meat and fish dishes at all. ½ respondents eat sweets daily. 1/2 of medical and other respondents told that they eat unhealthy, rich of fat, quickly made food few times a week. Choice of daily food is based most on taste and favorite food. More than half medical and only third other students know principles of healthy nutrition. However, medical students know more than other. Major group of students answered that they are interested in getting information about healthy nutrition, but girls are interested more. More than half medical and only 3 (2,2%) of other students get largely amount of information in universities, other information sources are radio, TV, press and the least part of information they get from medical care specialists. The least part of people, communicated with students were nurses. Conclusion: 1. Nutrition of majority observed students is unbalanced; only 1/3 eat based on well balanced nutrition principles. However, VU MF medical eat healthier than other students, because they know more about healthy nutrition. Choice of daily food is based most on taste and favorite food. 2. Major group of students answered that they are interested in getting information about healthy nutrition, but girls are interested more. More than half medical and only 3 (2,2%) of other universities students get largely amount of information from lectures, other information sources are radio, TV, press and least part of information they get from medical care specialists. The least part of people, communicated with students were nurses. 3. The knowledge about healthy nutrition of more 1/2 of MF and only 1/3 student’s is comprehensive and sciential. Respondent’s opinion on untraditional diet is negative. Girls have more knowledge about healthy nutrition than boys. Correlation analysis showed that there exist statistical secure connection between respondents knowledge and using it in practice (r=0,064, p<0,001). 4. Senior school aged children nutrition is also unbalanced; however, their nutritional mode is better. School aged children knowledge about healthy nutrition are the same as not medical students.
