Interviews of respondents were carried out in March – April 2008 via Internet, respondents were found via the embassies of the Republic of Lithuania, Lithuanian communities or women intermediaries residing in one of the above mentioned EU member states. 109 women emigrants from Lithuania were interviewed. The study shows that learning or studying women adapt more quickly and easily in comparison with working or unemployed. As it was assumed, Lithuanian women who married foreign state citizens adapt as hard as the economic emigrants. Working respondents take an active part in the cultural activities, visit theatres and exhibitions, however, do not go to the cinemas and city parties. Working women who took part in the study do not speak the language of accepting countries better that unemployed. The study shows than main adaptation problems are undesire of local inhabitants to set good contacts and friendship with foreigners, bad knowledge of language and lower income than that of local inhabitants. Participation in the social activity is impeded by the lack of information and free time.
