The objective of the present master thesis is to analyze the words used in addressing characters in Addressing People in the Direct Speech of Alė Rūta's Novel Trumpa diena from the perspective of their origin, structure, formation and semantic properties. The analysis was carried out by highlighting all such instances featured in the dialogs, monologues and chants of of Alė Rūta's Novel Trumpa diena that allowed a further analysis of the frequency of their usage. Alongside their quantitative analysis, a deeper qualitative research was carried out determining, where applicable, how such words would translate into the standard language, their phonetic deviations, structure, formation, semantic properties. Based on the results of the qualitative analysis the words used in addressing the characters in the novel were divided into two major groups i.e. words carrying direct meanings and words carrying indirect meanings. The research further revealed that words that carry direct meanings are more common in addressing the characters in the novel. |
