Abstract [eng] The object of this thesis is concept in Lithuanian and English languages represented by lexemes tiesa/truth. Concept in this thesis is considered as a mental unit which reflects all information that is formed in human conscience, the key to that information is word (lexical unit). Therefore, the words, i.e. metaphors were chosen as a means of conducting the analysis in the above mentioned languages seeking to achieve the aim. The aim of this thesis is the identification of TRUTH concept similarities and differences existing in Lithuanian and English language worldviews. In order to achieve this aim the following objectives have been set: 1. to analyze theoretical literature concerning conceptual analysis and metaphor theory; 2. to gather metaphorical expressions with lexemes tiesa/truth from English and Lithuanian languages; 3. to conduct comparative analysis of English and Lithuanian expressions with lexemes tiesa/truth ant to reconstruct conceptual metaphors. To achieve the above mentioned objectives the following methods have been applied: Metaanalysis. Conceptual metaphor method. Comparative method. Descriptive method. The research of this thesis is aiming to answer the question: is linguistic expression of concept TIESA/TRUTH in Lithuanian and English languages universal or more culture specific? In the theoretical part of the thesis the definitions of worldview and concept – which is the result of worldview formation in human conscience, are provided as well as the description of metaphorization process and its result – conceptual metaphor are discussed. The corpus for the analysis, i.e. metaphorical expressions were gathered from Lithuanian corpus Dabartinis lietuvių kalbos tekstynas (321 examples) and British National Corpus (276 examples). By application of cognitive linguistics metaphor method two basic conceptual metaphors were reconstructed: TRUTH IS A LIVING BEING and TRUTH IS AN OBJETC. Under each main metaphor there are few smaller ones reconstructed as well, for instance TRUTH IS A HUMAN BEING, TRUTH IS A CONTAINER. After the analysis was performed it was found out that fundamentally the linguistic expression of concept TRUTH in Lithuanian and English languages is similar, however in Lithuanian languages due to specific historical experience of the nation truth is conceptualized not only in more detail and more cultural specifically but as well is more important and valuable in the whole Lithuanian axiological system.
