Subject relevance: Recently medical waste amounts are increasing therefore it is necessary to make extra researches of waste movement in the hospital. To evaluate if applied methods will secure fast and secure waste disposal and human safety. The aim of the work: „To evaluate medical waste formation and management in the Public institution Vilnius University Hospital Santariškių Klinikos.“ The targets of the work: 1. To analyse medical waste juridical basis. The analysis of medical waste juridical basis. 2. To estimate medical waste formation amounts per year in the Public institution Vilnius University Hospital Santariškių Klinikos. 3. To value medical waste sorting, management and utilization ways. The object and methodology of the research: The object of the research - Public institution Vilnius University Hospital Santariškių Klinikos. Questionnaire method was used for the investigation. 103 respondents took place in the investigation. Get answers versions were processed using the quantitative way. The data were valued with „SPSS for Windows 13.0” program. The main results and conclusions of the work: 1. Waste management in the Lithuania is controlled according to the EU requirements and provisions, medical waste management strategy, principles and hierarchy. The EU waste management is realized with law acts – regulations, directives, decisions and solutions. Lithuania from joining to the EU is committed to do all EU requirements in waste management range. Most of the EU requirements are performed. 2. 113381 tons of medical waste formed per year in the health care institution. 3. Medical waste in the health care institution is managed from its formation places to delivery to waste carrier. Medical waste is sorting in the formation points, straight collected to special fitted containers and packed so that do not endanger to public health and environment. The health care institution must sign a contract with the hazardous waste management company. According to that contract, the hazardous waste management company with their transport must export medical waste from temporary storage site to medical waste disposal company. |
