Abstract [eng] The analysis of the theory and the theoretical concept of aging were carried out; the relevance of health, independence in the daily activities and physical activity in the elderly age were discussed. The hypothesis that physically active elderly people are more independent in the daily activity was raised. The questionnaire method enabled to carry out the research which purpose – to investigate the links of physical activity and independence of the elderly people in the daily activity. The statistical data analysis was performed (descriptive statistics – percent, chose level of significance p≤0, 05). There participated 220 elderly people from the district of Radviliškis in the research. Some of the returned questionnaires were not fully fulfilled, i.e. some separate questions were left unanswered, thus, the number of respondents N=199, out of whom: 42.7 % were men, 57.3 % – women. The empirical part concentrates on the health, physical activity and independence of the elderly people in the daily activity and, as well on the links of physical activity and independence. The main conclusions of the empirical research: 1. Research revealed that most of the elderly people assess their health as tolerable. Most of the elderly people do not do physical exercises. Therefore, their physical activity is insufficient. It was noticed that the greater the physical activity of the respondents, the better their health condition is. 2. It was shown that independence depends upon health. Good health enables the elderly people to perform the daily activities independently. Most of the respondents perform their daily activities independently. However, sometimes they need help. The most difficult for the elderly people is to move (walk). The compensatory measures help to facilitate movement and ensure the greater level of independence. 3. It was determined that the elderly people with great level of physical activity are able to perform daily works independently. So, it has been proved that there exists the link between the physical activity and the independence in the daily activity.
