Abstract [eng] The Media as a tool is a powerful force, which performs many important functions. The basic function – public information, awareness, shaping opinions and attitudes, cultural enhancement and entertaining – is complemented by one additional function – educational – in this work. The Media use affects individuals’ language skills more than dictionary, grammar books or teaching lessons. In this way you can learn directly, with no struggle and no study, just listening what you like, watching something you always watch or reading what is interesting and what you like to read. Master’s thesis is features of media use by Lithuanian ethnic minorities (Polish, Russian and Belarusian). The aim is, to discuss the ethnic minorities (Poles, Russians and Belarusians), media consumption characteristics, according to the scientific literature summaries and research. Objectives: to determine the language of ethnic minorities generally communicate at home and in public places; to explore, which media and in which language ethnic minorities use the most; to find out what problems facing ethnic minorities in dealing with people of Lithuanian nationality, to identify the features of generations’ interacting and their impact on language proficiency. Using interviews, reference, inventory methods, it was concluded that the Media constantly affects ethnic minorities, their language and their future life, which is related with the dominant ethnic group and the integration into society. The main impact to ethnic minority groups has TV and online media. These two types of media in daily interactions with members of ethnic minorities are not only serving information but also helping to improve native or home stated language. Through skills training, after which, although not directly, but also extensively make impact to the integration process of ethnic minorities. Also, the clear tendency is seen – the younger generations of ethnic minorities, regardless of what language communicates at home, in public places are speaking in Lithuanian at most.
