Abstract [eng] |
This study is based on a complete mtDNA sequencing and increased number of genotyped Y chromosome SNPs as and STRs. Furthermore, for the first time genome-wide data and exome genetic variants are used to analyze the genetic structure of the Lithuanian population and the genetic distances among the other populations. Finally, for the first time a comparison and an evaluation of different genetic markers used to study the Lithuanian population were performed. The identification of the genomic markers were performed using the latest molecular genetic methods and instruments. Data analysis was performed using widely handled analysis methods. This study showed that the Lithuanian population is homogeneous. Increased number of genomic markers allowed to detect the minimal genetic differences of six ethno-linguistic groups of Lithuania. The distribution of Y chromosome haplogroups and haplotypes analysis showed the North–South gradient while the study of complete mtDNA revealed the West–East gradient of genetic variation within the Lithuanian population. Moreover, the analysis of genome-wide data showed the Northwest–Southeast gradient of genetic variation within the Lithuanian population. The results revealed that genetic distances among populations depend mostly on the geographic distances among the populations. The results of this study supplement previous studies and will serve as the background for the future genetic structure analysis of the Lithuanian population. |
