Abstract [eng] Films, including comedies, is one of the most abundant type of audiovisual production. However, the research of audiovisual humour is often limited to linguistic analysis ignoring oral and visual elements of audiovisual text, their possible interaction or influence on the process of subtitling. Having assessed the complexity of humour classification and humour definition, stylistic devices which convey humour have been chosen as the object of the research since they are one of the best-defined units of humour. The aim of this research is to analyse the linguistic, extralinguistic and paralinguistic transformations of humour in the subtitled comedy series Hot in Cleveland. In order to achieve this goal, an innovative model of the research of the audiovisual text has been constructed on the basis of the multimodal analysis which consists of the transcription of the peculiarities of gesticulation, emotions manifested by the characters and the vocal expression as well as the analysis of subtitling strategies. This research allows to investigate and evaluate the potential of extralinguistic and paralinguistic elements in the audiovisual text meant to convey certain meanings and compensate linguistic losses in subtitles. The research has shown that visual information of an audiovisual text, especially gestures and emotions of characters seen by the spectator can compensate linguistic losses in subtitles. It has also been determined that certain phonic peculiarities of an AV text could be imitated or partially retained in subtitles by choosing an appropriate structure or the word order in a sentence. Given the findings of the research, it could also be claimed that the subtitling of each stylistic device is a unique solution to be made by a translator keeping to different standards of subtitling. For this reason, the translation of a particular form of humour or that of a specific stylistic device, cannot be exclusively associated with specific and unique translation strategies.
