Discourses and framing strategies of the war in Ukraine: analyzing narratives in Lithuanian online media is a master thesis by Greta Labenskaitė. This paper applies Robert M. Entman's theory of framing to analyse how the state of war affects the information field, how propaganda emerges in it, and what narratives about the war in Ukraine are formed in Lithuanian online media. Using qualitative content analysis, the material is analysed through the frames of problem, cause, morality, solution proposition, and propaganda techniques by viewing selected videos from a selected channel. Research problem: what narratives about the war What are the narratives about the war in Ukraine constructed in Lithuanian online propaganda media? The analysis will seek to understand what narratives are created and what methods are used to inform and influence audience opinion. “OpTV” YouTube channel is actively involved in shaping public opinion, it is important to analysis, this thesis aims to examine what narratives about the war in Ukraine are shaped by the propaganda, online channel “OpTV”, and what propaganda techniques are used for this purpose. To achieve this goal, the following objectives are set: to define, based on the scientific literature the concept of propaganda, discuss the role of the media in the creation of propaganda narratives In the context of war; empirical research, and qualitative content analysis to determine, using empirical qualitative study, which narratives about the war in Ukraine are created in the Lithuanian online propaganda media in Ukraine. identify and define the propaganda dissemination techniques used to shape these narratives. The object of the Master's thesis is the representation of the war in Ukraine in Lithuanian Ukraine in the online media - the propaganda channel “OpTV”. The study shows that online media channels can spread propaganda. "The case of “OpTV” showed that different narratives are being shaped, which are gradually shaping public opinion, encouraging scepticism about support for Ukraine, Western policies and the ability of the Ukrainian government to act. The following narratives were explored in the programmes studied: “The government hides everything from ordinary people”, “The government divides society”, “The Lithuanian government is negligent in defence”, “The Lithuanian government does not support Ukraine, it just raises ratings”, “The Lithuanian government is closely linked to Russia”, “The Lithuanian government is provoking a war with Russia”, “Lithuanian politicians are guilty of the fact that Ukraine is at war”, “There is no point in supporting Ukraine because of the corruption in Ukraine”, “The donated aid does not reach Ukraine”, “NATO and the EU do not care about Ukraine”. The narratives span the discourses of Lithuanian politics, Ukraine and international politics. The debate on the threat to the state is broadening in Lithuanian politics. |
