Abstract [eng] Skin Melanoma: Incidence, Mortality and Survival Assessment in Lithuania The mortality structure of the Lithuanian population, for the main cause of deaths over the years remains unchanged. In 2012, the three main causes of death - cardiovascular disease, malignant tumor and external causes account to 85.1 % of all recorded deaths. The cases of malignant tumors in Lithuania has been consistently rising 3.8 % annually from 1993 to 2011. By the end of 2012, total cancer patients reached 95 684. From 2001 to 2011, skin tumors ranked third in men, and second in women compared to other malignancies. One of the most common cancers is skin melanoma, which affects a lot of young people, with an average age of under 55. When compared to the rest of Europe, the quantity of Lithuanian cases of melanoma in patients aged under 55 can be seen as moderate, however, with a constant yearly rise can been seen as an increasing problem. Job Purpose: To review the epidemiological situation of skin melanoma in Lithuania in the period of 2000 – 2012 .Research tasks:To evaluate the cases of skin melanoma in Lithuania. To evaluate the mortality caused by skin melanoma in Lithuania. To evaluate survival rate of skin melanoma patients in Lithuania. Research methodology: Study Type - descriptive epidemiological research. For the analysis of morbidity and mortality from skin melanoma was based on the Lithuanian Cancer Register data. The study included newly registered cases for the period of 2000-2012. Morbidity and mortality changes over time were analyzed by segmental (Jointpoint) regression method. The age-standardized method of Morbidity and mortality rates were used by direct standardization of the European Standard. For the study were used WinPepi (11.62 v.) and Join Point (4.4.0.0 v.) programs. Results: From the period of 2000 to 2012, there were 3448 patients and 1244 recorded deaths from skin melanoma in Lithuania. The multiannual dynamics of the disease characterized by a statistically significant upward trend in MPP during the period was 5.8 percent. Most cases are localized in the abdominal region, with most cases beginning in the first stage of disease, with stage 4 cases decreasing annually. Deaths used to rise at about 4.28% annually, with the highest rates observed in the 60 and over age group. The analysis survival rates show that average age for men is 57.8 and for women 58 years.Monitoring was conducted over five years with the sample group being 64% of melanoma patients, during the monitoring, 366 of the patients (or 36%) died. The relative five-year cumulative survival rate for men was 0.53, and the women - 0.63. Conclusion:The morbidity and mortality of melanoma is increasing every year, by the application of appropriate and preventive measures the morbidity and mortality from skin melanoma can be reduced, as well as lengthen the life span of patients. Keywords: oncology, melanoma, incidence, mortality, survival.
