Influence of Physical Activity at Home and in Community of Older Adults for Fitness, Mobility and Life Quality The Author: VU Master of Rehabilitation programme the 2nd course student Asta Viskontaitė. Academic advisor: dr. Asta Mastavičiūtė, Vilnius University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Rehabilitation, Physical and Sports Medicine. Key words: older, fitness, mobility, quality of life, physical activity. Goal of the research: To evaluate influence of physical exercises at home and in community of older adults for fitness, mobility and life quality. Research objectives: 1. To determine fitness, mobility and life quality of older adult; 2. To determine fitness, mobility and life quality of older adult after physical activity program; 3. To compare the results between the subjects who physical activity performed at home with physical activity performed in the community. Materials and methods. The study was carried out from October, 2016 to February, 2017 of Vilnius city, Karoliniškės and Lazdynai microdistricts, of representatives the premises and Vilnius university faculty of medicine department of Rehabilitation, physical and sports medicine. In the study participated 60 subjects were randomized into groups of 30 persons. The experimental group performed exercise group pursuing conducting of physiotherapist while the control group the same exercises performed at home the themselves. Exercise were carried out twice a week, for eight weeks, each session lasted about 40 minutes. Testing was performed before the intervention and after eight weeks. In the second testing 39 persons had been tested. The short physical performance batery was used to evaluate for fitness, The Functional Reach Test and Modified Keitel index – were used to evaluate for mobility and SF-36 quality of life questionnaire was used to evaluate quality of life in study sample. Data analysis was performed using the computer program SPSS 23.0 for windows statistical package. Results. After eight weeks of intervention, fitness test scores of the community groups increased by an average result of 2.19 points, the change was statistically significant (p <0,05), of the average test scores of fitness did not change significantly of home group. The assessment of The Functional Reach Test performance had statistically significant change in community group (p <0,05) during the second test The Functional Reach Test average increase of 5.8 centimeters, the home group had not a statistically significant change. Modified Keitel index point average after the exercise program had changed statistically significant community group (p<0,05), Modified Keitel index scores average had increase 5.38 points, while the home group did not have a statistically significant change (p>0,05). The study results showed that Quality of life indicators of community group were statistically significant different and the average score increased by 11 points (p<0,05), home group is not a statistically significant change, the average score increased by 3 points (p>0,05). Conclusions: 1. There were statistically significant effectiveness in fitness, mobility and quality of life in assessing of clinical tests after of physical activity course, performed in the community, of older adults (p<0,05); 2. There were not statistically significant effectiveness in fitness, mobility and quality of life in assessing of clinical tests after of physical activity course, performed at home, of older adults (p>0,05); 3. There were statistically significant effectiveness in fitness, mobility and quality of life after of physical activity carried out in the community, along with others, and physiotherapist at the experiment care of older adults (p<0,05). |
