Abstract [eng] THE ROLE OF PHARMACIST IN THE CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE RISK PREVENTION Summary: Cardiovascular diseases between men and women are main cause of death in European countries. In world health organization’s European region countries 4.35 million and in EU countries 1.9 million of people die annually because of cardiovascular diseases. Cardiovascular diseases in Lithuania are causing twice as much of death than EU average. In 2015 circulatory system diseases was death cause for 47.7 pct. between men and 65.1 pct. between women. Health education and prevention are main areas in health strengthening goals. Pharmacists may contribute to implementation of health strengthening goals by using their knowledge and expertise. Research goal – find patient knowledge level of main cardiovascular diseases risk factors and their importance in disease prevention. Raised tasks to achieve goal: 1) Evaluate patients’ knowledge level about arterial hypertension and its impact to cardiovascular risk. 2) Find out patients’ understanding about dyslipidemia in cardiovascular disease risk. 3) Analyse patients’ understanding about diabetes influence to cardiovascular diseases. 4) Analyse knowledge about obesity and about cardiovascular disease risks. 5) Find out patients’ knowledge level about hypodynamia in cardiovascular disease risk. 6) Find out patients’ awareness level about smoking harm in cardiovascular risk. 250 patients who visited pharmacy participated in research. Survey was carried out in Vilnius pharmacies in 2017 year. By using questionnaire method we tried to find out patients’ knowledge levels about main cardiovascular disease risk factors. Provided questions were about knowledge, lifestyle, addictions, diet, physical activity, emotions. Statistical data analysis was conducted using SPSS 23.0 program package. Conclusions: 1. Even 109 (43, 6%) of respondents do not measure and know nothing about their blood pressure data. This shows that people disregard arterial hypertension impact in cardiovascular risk factors. 2. Dyslipidemia is a widespread risk factor in Lithuania and its diagnostic is still insufficient. 166 (66.4%) of respondents do not know their cholesterol data and disregard low cholesterol density impact as a risk in the cardiovascular system. 3. From 250 respondents that participated in the survey 200 (80%) do not check the glucose concentration in blood annually, don’t care enough that diabetes is one of main risk factors in getting cardiovascular diseases. 4. 163 (65, 2%) of the respondents pay little attention to healthy diets or a healthy lifestyle and do not follow the healthy eating pyramid principle. 48 (19.2%) of surveyed people know nothing at all about the healthy eating pyramid. 5. The physical activity of Lithuanian residents is insufficient. 171 (68, 4%) of surveyed respondents do not work out at all and 105 (42%) always use transport to reach destinations. 6. Smoking is one of main risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. Statistically there are significantly more smoking men than women. Unfortunately knowledge about cardiovascular risk factors is too poor, that’s why pharmacist must inform patients about spread of cardiovascular risk factors, their meanings in cardiovascular risk prevention and off course give consultation about a healthy lifestyle.
