Abstract [eng] Objectives of the research: 1) To calculate metformin use in different Lithuanian regions using ATC/ADD method in the year 2015. 2) To find metformin usage differences in Lithuanian regions. 3) Compare regional metformin usage and type 2 diabetes sickness rate differences. Methodology: Diabetes mellitus medications (ATC subgroup -A10) usage is estimated according to ATC/DDD methodology and expressed by DDD number per thousand people per day. The medications used for type II diabetes are assessed by the retrospective VLKIS research. For this research 2015 data was used. Statistical analysis was performed by „Microsof Excel“ software. Results: Analysis of metformin usage in Lithuanian regions showed that consumption of it is different by 1,4 times. Biggest consumption is in Vilnius district – 20,33 DDD/per person/per day. The smallest amount of metformin consumption can be found in Tauragė's district (14.03DDD/per person/per day). Even though district of Panevėžys has the biggest sickness rate of diabetes mellitus (36,05/1000 people), but the metformin usage is one of the smallest in this district – 16,76 03 DDD/1000 people/per day. District of Vilnius and district of Marijampolė has similar sickness rates (Vilnius – 34,35/1000 people, Marijampolė – 34,93/1000 people), but the usage of metformin is different by 1,3 times. Conclusion: Metformin use prevalence between regions revealed after the ATC / DDD analysis. The difference between the regions is 1.4 times. This is due to the prevalence of morbidity, and is not always rational drug use. In most regions metformin consumption was not adequate morbidity prevalence.
