Mystical in the Last Stories of Ivan Turgenev The aim of the Master's thesis is to try to establish cause that made author (Turgenev) create a compilation of so-called the Last Stories. The object of investigation of the present study is mysterious novels» written by Turgenev in the period of 1863-1882. In the thesis, multiple meanings of «mystical» definition, including how it was mysterious phenomena were publically accepted at the time of Turgenev 's life. The analysis of work is based on the first and the last Turgenev's novels, correspondingly «The Dog» and «After Death (Klara Milich)». Here we identified that mystical for Turgenev was a sound or visual hallucination. Fear of illness and death were among of the factors which affected Turgenev to write such novels. Furthermore, one of the reasons of his interest in mystical was the duality of his character that is depicted in his works. While creating the Last Stories Turgenev was trying to answer the questions – Is there anything beyond the death of the physical body? Is human soul immortal? |
