Lithuanian Sailing Terminology Summary Sailling is becoming more and more popular as a sport or leisure time activity in Lithuania, therefore the usage of terminology of this subject area is growing rapidly. Due to various historical facts which were not favourable for the growth of Lithuanian sailling terminology we have now an unsettled termimology of this specific subject area. All Lithuanian dictionaries that contain sailling terminology are analazied in the Master Thesis. The Thesis is focused on such questions weather Lithuanian dictionaries comply with present requirements for terminology dictionaries or which sailling terms are included in the dictionaries – borrowed words or original words. The main focus is on the languages from which the sailling terms have been borrowed. For this purpose the equivalalents of English, Dutch, German and Russian sailling terms were listed. The recommendations outline what is missing in order to prepare quality prescriptive and structurally arranged sailling dictionaries. |
