Rett syndrome is a rare, specificy, genetic, disease, it has been a little-studied in Lithuania, and the treatment has not discovered yet any pharmaceuticals, but there is named one of the main effective treatment plan – is a constant therapeutic work. The specificity of this syndrome is caused not only by the fact that individuals with this syndrome experience a full range of the most complex health problems that are terribly complicated and influenced the development of communication, learning, mobility, and, in general, the whole life. However, particularly outstanding feature of Rett syndrome is a little damage of two major senses: hearing and vision. A person, who is unable to move normally, constantly tormented by epilepsy and seizures, muscle spasms, various respiratory problems and other internal ailments or pain, can hear, see and process this information completely normal. Starting therapeutic work with persons with Rett syndrome, it is impossible not to notice that they particularly enjoy the music, react differently to different tunes, each of individuals has its own musical priorities, which predisposes them well and motivate. This theoretical knowledge offers opportunities for this study: knowing about the need of the therapies and hearing integrity, music therapy is the first and most important therapy, that can improve individuals with diagnosis of Rett Syndrome, quality of life. The study is designed to find the most effective music therapy techniques, and their specific application features at the work with individuals with Rett Syndrome. To achieve this objective, applied these methods: the analysis of scientific literature, and the combined use of empirical research methods – survey and statistical narrative analysis of the data and descriptive case study and video analysis. Summarizing the results of the investigation it turns out that music therapy is indicated for variety of health needs for individuals with a Rett Syndrome, but it can be particularly effective to enhance functional hand use, to develop mobility and movement, to improve non-verbal communication, and to let experience joy. Prefered methods in music therapy are improvisational games, and the activities in which girls can choose and reveal their desires. Case study confirms these findings, and let to raise awareness about the communication, glance and coordination features of the girl with Rett Syndrome. The research suggests that individuals with Rett syndrome are able to choose, learn, and, ir they have a sufficients time to response, their responds appropriately to sound or visual stimuli. |
