The Outline of Personality Formation in Ieva Simonaitytė's Autobiographical Trilogy Little attention is paid to the investigation of the autobiography in Lithuanian literature. Research is often limited to the specific topics, which do not reveal the essential intention of autobiography to address the course of human development. Correspondingly, as a subject-matter we selected the outline of the personality development in Ieva Simonaitytė’s autobiographical trilogy. In this work the process of the personality development has been studied on the grounds of Alfred Adler’s personality development concept and feminist literary criticism. It was revealed that I. Simonaitytė’s autobiography is based on the division into three age periods, which are framed by the establishment of unique personal initiations. Childhood period is displayed in relation to the limitations of child’s linguistic and mental capabilities. The effects of an illness to the relationship between the personality and its social environment are observed as enhanced control of the individual. Adolescent purpose is realised within the proposed model of the community. At the same time it is tested and redefined according to the personal needs. In the course of maturity the conceptions of femininity are realised, the creative plans are actualised and skills in the professional field are developed. |
