Abstract [eng] The interaction of traditional religious theraphy and Western psichotherapy in the Islamic culture The subject of the Master‘s thesis is the interaction of traditional religious therapy and Western psychotherapy in Islam. In many ways different cultures form a different way of life and the people are different in their psychology (Heine 2008). Culture also influences the understanding of psychopathology. Psychotherapy has been used in the treatment of mental disorders for many centuries before became popular in the West in the twentieth century as a unique method of treatment. The purpose of thesis is to analyse inculturation of Western psychotherapy in Islam. To comprehend the problems of inculturation is analyzing the understanding of mental illness in Islam; also identifying the influence of religion on mental disorders and treatment; concisely reviewing the evolution of traditional therapy in Islam; analysing the approach of Muslims patients to psychotherapy; highlighting the main differences between Islamic psychotherapy and modern Western psychotherapy. Hypothesis – the measures of Western and the traditional religious psychotherapy taken together complement each other. During the research of the theme several methods were applied: interdisciplinary methodology, several theoretical approaches, the historical-religiuos studies basis on which to analyse historical material of mental health perception in religiuos traditions, the development of psychotherapy, the analysis of modern critical studies and interview. The study revealed that the religion takes the main part of Islamic psychotherapy and plays a central role in the Islamic mental health treatment. The roots of the modern psychotherapy are in the old Islamic tradition. The analysis also showed that the bigest part of muslims with the mental disorders do not receive suitable assistance both in developed and undeveloped countries. The mental disorders are stigmatized in Islam. Western psychotherapy unable fully to reveal the therapy process in a multicultural context. For the complete lack of developing of psychotherapy is missing for the theoretical base, that completely match the context of Arabic-Islamic socioculture. The compearing of Western and Islamic psychotherapy revealed not only the differences but also the points of contact. The Master‘s thesis could be useful for the cultural researchers of religion, psychologists, psychotherapists, orientalists, cultural mediators, migration and social service workers.
