Taiwaneseness in Contemporary Popculture of Taiwan. The focus of this thesis is taiwaneseness as an expression of local culture in contemporary pop culture sphere of Taiwan. The first part of the purpose of this thesis is to deny the view formed in the official culture discourse that choosing to articulate taiwaneseness, local cultural identity, must mean choosing it over other cultures, thus consequently leads to the formation of the dichotomy between cultures. The second part of the purpose is to demonstrate that the popular culture sphere of contemporary Taiwan, because of its unique flexible features, is the one, in which the specific cultural choice, be it local culture or foreign culture, can be made withouth leading to any dichotomy between cultures. |
