The role and impact of the charmer within the tradition of the charm is best evident when analyzing their own stories. These stories are well complemented by contemplations of other participants of the tradition regarding charmers and the tradition of the charm. The object of the master‘s thesis are the most active charmers of the Eastern Aukštaitija Region. The thesis draws upon the material that has ben recently collected by the author (in 2013–2014), mostly the charmers‘ stories. The thesis focuses not on problematic issues of charms, which have been amply studied by researchers, but on the doer, the charmer. The key research problem is the attitude of the charmer within the tradition of the charm, which has been little investigated and analyzed. The main objective of the thesis is to describe and analyze the relationship between the individuality and the role of the charmer, characterize the charmer‘s self-perception and highlight currency of the charmer‘s impact within the tradition of the charm. The thesis has the purpose to bring to notice the fact that without the analysis of the charmer‘s role, the research of the tradition of the charm lacks objectivity. |
