Abstract [eng] Background of the study: Colorectal cancer is the third most common oncological disease worldwide and one of the leading causes of cancer-related mortality in Lithuania. Despite the implementation of a colorectal cancer prevention program in Lithuania since 2014, participation rates remain below the 65% threshold recommended by the European Union. This study was conducted to determine the perspectives of general practitioners and the public on the program and to identify the factors influencing participation. Aim of the study: To determine the perspectives of general practitioners and the public on the implementation, awareness, and participation in the colorectal cancer prevention program, aiming to identify factors that may affect the program's effectiveness. Objectives of the study: The objectives of this study were to evaluate general practitioners' opinions on the importance and effectiveness of the colorectal cancer prevention program in their workplaces; to identify the role of the general practitioner and the factors encouraging patient participation in the program; to determine the associations between general practitioners’ sociodemographic characteristics (age, gender, work experience) and their attitudes towards the implementation of the program; and to assess the awareness of the colorectal cancer prevention program among public representatives aged 50–74 years and the factors promoting participation. Methods: Two surveys were conducted: an anonymous online survey of general practitioners and a survey of members of the public aged 50–74 years. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the χ² test, and Spearman’s correlation coefficient. Results of the study: The majority of general practitioners recognized the importance of the colorectal cancer prevention program but indicated problems related to patient information and motivation. It was observed that the age and work experience of the physicians were associated with their attitude towards the program’s implementation. According to the survey data, only about half of the public representatives were aware of the program, with the most common reasons for participation being physician recommendations and a family history of cancer. The main barriers to participation included a lack of information and fear of test results. Conclusions: The active involvement of general practitioners and systematic patient information are key factors in increasing participation rates in the program. It is advisable to strengthen public information campaigns and provide training for physicians on strategies to motivate patients.
