Abstract [eng] |
This study aimed to assess the associations between self-regulation and family factors in early childhood with problematic Internet use in adolescence. The research analyzed data collected from five stages of a longitudinal study. The present analysis focused on data from 41 children (26 girls and 15 boys), aged between 1,5 and 14 years, and their mothers. The results showed that adolescents' problematic Internet use was not associated with sociodemographic characteristics, but it was related to one family factor - the quality of the mother's relationship with her partner when the child was 3 years old - as well as the child's early self-regulation abilities (both overall self-regulation and "cool" self-regulation). A multiple linear regression analysis identified early self-regulation as a significant predictor of later problematic Internet use. |
