Abstract [eng] Uterine fibroids are the most common benign pelvic tumors in women of reproductive age, and their prevalence increases with age. With the growing tendency for women to postpone childbearing, the incidence of uterine fibroids during pregnancy is also on the rise. During pregnancy, uterine fibroids may be associated with a variety of complications, including postpartum hemorrhage, an increased rate of cesarean delivery, fetal malpresentation, placental attachment abnormalities, and preterm birth. As the uterus enlarges under the influence of sex hormones, rapid fibroid growth can lead to degeneration, necessitating close monitoring and appropriate management. The aim of this literature review is to discuss, on the basis of the most recent literature, the complications related to fibroids during pregnancy. A literature review is performed, and two clinical cases are presented to illustrate complications occurring in the presence of uterine fibroids during pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum period. Rare complications, such as abdominal compartment syndrome, uterine torsion, and fibroid incarceration, are also described. Finally, the management of painful fibroids during pregnancy is discussed, along with the role of surgical treatment of fibroids and its impact on pregnancy and delivery.
