Abstract [eng] |
Thrombopoiesis is a dynamic and multifaceted process governed by a combination of megakaryocyte physiology, mechanical forces, and the microenvironment of specific anatomical niches. This literature review aims to synthesise current evidence pertaining to the process of thrombopoiesis, including surface budding, the proplatelet model, and the demarcation membrane system model. Furthermore, the review discusses existing data regarding the anatomical sites of thrombopoiesis: the bone marrow, liver, spleen, and lungs. Lastly, it examines distinctions between physiological and pathological thrombopoiesis with particular emphasis on unresolved research questions and future research perspectives. |
