Abstract [eng] |
Aim of the study: to assess the effects of different forms of physical activity on the intrinsic capacity in older adults. Tasks of work: 1. To assess the effect of aerobic exercises on the intrinsic capacity of older adults. 2. To analyse the effect of strength exercises on the intrinsic capacity of older adults. 3. To investigate the effect of balance exercises on the intrinsic capacity of older adults. 4. To determine the effect of combined exercises on the intrinsic capacity of older adults. 9 Materials and methods: a systematic literature review was conducted based on the PRISMA methodology requirements. A search for scientific sources published in 2019 – 2024 was conducted in the PubMed and Web of Science databases. 15 scientific articles that met the inclusion/exclusion criteria were included in the review. Results: The greatest influence on the intrinsic capacity in older adults was exerted by aerobic exercises performed in water of longer duration, moderate - high intensity, locomotion, vitality, cognitive functions and psychological were significantly improved. Resistance and balance exercises most effectively affected only the locomotion aspect. The effect on other areas was not determined. Combined training greater effectiveness was determined by combining all 3 types of training (aerobic, resistance and balance) and using moderate, low-fluctuating intensity, this training did not examine the psychological aspect. Conclusions: 1. A systematic literature review revealed that aerobic training effectively improves all examined aspects of intrinsic capacity among older adults. 2. Resistance training effectively affects the locomotor domain, but does not affect vitality, cognitive functions and psychological criteria. 3. Balance training improves locomotor criterion, due to lack of data, the effectiveness for other areas has not been established. 4. Combined type of training improves three out of four aspects of intrinsic capacity. The effect was not found for the psychological criterion. |
