Abstract [eng] |
Sigitas Parulskis - Lithuanian poet and essayist, playwrighter and literary critic, winner of many literary prizes. Literary critic and philosopher Jūratė Baranova identifies self-irony and paradox as the first "trace" of Parulskis essayistic work. Even Parulskis himself has described his work as containing a large dose of irony and self-irony. Large amounts of irony become the author's calling card and therefore often referred to as Parulskis-like irony. However, in the author's work, it also serves as a tool for thinking about life and raising questions related to everyday life, morality, or even culture and existence. A similar understanding and definition of irony can be found in ancient Greek literature and philosophy. Irony is also used as a stylistic device. Sigitas Parulskis himself notes that style is particularly important to him, as it is a distinguishing feature of a writer. It helps you stand out from other creators. In his book The Most Beautiful Dreams About the Road text called About the history author himself writes: "I don't write a story for easy reading, it's a commercial conveyor belt task, not a literature I enjoy." Irony from a philosophical perspective has been examined in scientific articles and books. When it comes to the works of Sigitas Parulskis, the element of irony is quite often noticed and emphasized in reviews. The element of irony in the works of Sigitas Parulskis has been examined in scientific works by Marijus Šidlauskas and Jūratė Baranova. However, Parulskis works has not been examined in scientific works from both a rhetorical and a philosophical perspective. In addition, previously unstudied works of the author are used for scientific work. The aim of the work is to analyze the expression of irony in the prose works of Sigitas Parulskis and how irony and its use influence his work. To achieve the aim, the following tasks are set: 1) to define the concept of irony in rhetoric; 2) to define the concept of irony in philosophy; 3) to reveal how irony is used in Sigitas Parulskis prose collection “Patys gražiausi sapnai apie kelią” (The Most Beautiful Dreams about the Road); The first half of the theoretical part, Theory of Irony in Rhetoric, delves into theoretical sources that discuss irony and its use in rhetoric, and based on them, reviews how the use of irony can be useful. In addition, the main concepts related to the topic of irony are introduced and theories of irony related to communication are reviewed. 34 The second half of the theoretical part, Theory of Irony in Philosophy, is intended to review how irony has been treated from a philosophical perspective in different historical periods and why it was used. Based on sources, the subtopic discusses Socratic irony in more detail, briefly describes the perception of irony by German romantics. Finally, the subtopic introduces the concept of controlled irony, provides its explanation and examples of where such irony can be used. The practical part of the work presents the researched collection of the author's prose The Most Beautiful Dreams of the Road and the texts printed there, and briefly introduces the chapters of the book. The practical part of the work is divided into five subtopics: Irony in Sigitas Parulskis' prose: a rhetorical perspective, Expression of the comedy through irony in Sigitas Parulskis' prose, Socratic irony in Sigitas Parulskis' prose, Controlled irony and auto-irony in Sigitas Parulskis' prose, and Analysis of the historical past through irony in Sigitas Parulskis' prose. |
