Abstract [eng] |
This article aims to analyse language attitudes of Polish youth in Lithuania, with particular focus on their views regarding linguistic correctness and the standard variety of the Polish language. The study adopts a broad definition of language attitude as an emotional evaluation of language, shaped by social, political, and cultural factors. Based on a survey of 98 respondents aged 16–30, the research has shown that while Polish remains a key marker of cultural and national identity, its usage is increasingly influenced by Lithuanian and Russian, particularly in educational, professional, and digital contexts. Although 88.8% of participants report efforts to use standard Polish in formal situations, a significant minority display a pragmatic acceptance of the local mixed variety (“tutejszy”) and show flexible language practices shaped by social setting. Difficulties in lexical competence, especially in specialized fields, are common. The findings suggest that young Poles in Lithuania maintain an emotional attachment to Polish while adapting to the realities of a multilingual communication landscape. |
