The aim of the dissertation is to examine the structure of the Chancellery of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, its personnel, and the activities of the institution between 1566 and 1623. The study analyses the internal organization of the Chancellery, the hierarchy of offices, and the specific functions of each position in order to reveal the principles of its operation and the logic of the administrative system. Special attention is given to the figures of the chancellors and vice-chancellors, exploring their biographies, career development, and role within the structures of power. The dissertation also focuses on the group of clerks, discussing their social origins, professional activities, and features of their collective biography. Furthermore, it examines the Chancellery’s interaction with other state institutions, its role in serving the ruler’s court, organizing the work of the Sejm, and preparing official documents. The research reveals how this institution functioned as one of the key centres of state administration and the implementation of political authority. |
