Tis article is an introduction to Volume 49 of the journal Acta Baltico-Slavica, entitled Kontakty językowe i kulturowe w państwach regionu Morza Bałtyckiego[Language and Cultural Contacts in the Countries of the Baltic Sea Region]. Te volume includes three thematic sections: “Balto-Slavic Language Contacts”, “Literature and Cultural Imagi-nation in the Baltic and slavic Traditions”, and “From Research on Linguistic, Ethnic and Religious Minorities in the Context of Migration and War”. Some of the articles address topics related to transformations of identity as well as multilingualism and memory in the context of wars, displacement and migration, from both contemporary and historical perspectives. Te section “Sources and Materials” brings the second part of the correspondence between Jan Baudouin de Courtenay and Jan Karłowicz from 1887–1891, shedding light on the life of the linguistic scholarly community at the end of the nineteenth century. |
