The proposed study is part of the contrastive research carried out, from a synchronic perspective, on the verbs of visual perception and in the theoretical line on pragmaticalisation and grammaticalisation. Based on the Corpus parallèle de Textes Littéraires (CTLFR-PL-LT), composed of contemporary French literary documents and their translations into Polish and Lithuanian, this study first groups together occurrences in concrete visual perception, abstract perception and pragmaticalised uses, characterised by syntactic mobility, non-temporality and semantic whitening. The article establishes that among the Polish and Lithuanian equivalents of voir, there are, alongside widzieć/matyti (which translate the nuclear sense of concrete visual perception), a significant number of cognition verbs: rozumieć/suprasti “to understand” and wiedzieć/žinoti “to know.” The types of Polish and Lithuanian equivalents depend on the sense in which voir is used in the analysed structures. |
